Weber Connect

An companion app for BBQ enthusiasts that with the connected thermometer can monitor their food and grill. In close collaboration with engineers and R&D we ideated and built features for monitoring and providing users with timely step-by-step instructions for their food. We also built a whole new section for inspiration such as recipes and cooking-guides as well as upsell moments for Weber to recommend extra hardware. I was also in charge of maintaining and scaling the design system for Android, iOS and WatchOS.\

Grilling Section

Serving as the ‘cockpit’, users can continuously follow all activity related to their BBQ and ongoing programs. The Recipe view let’s a user customise the program to their preferences before starting the grill session. On these screens it was crucial to give the right amount of information to give the user the feeling of complete control.

Recipes

The newly designed and developed recipes section features a feed of recipes and collections tailored to the user based on their previous cooking history, as well as currently featured and popular recipes. It was important to balance inspirational content with the ability to quickly find specific recipes if users had a rough idea of what they wanted to cook. We addressed this by implementing a comprehensive search functionality and quick categories, enabling users to swiftly select their core ingredient.

Upselling moments

Weber aimed to create opportunities to promote and sell their grilling accessories, such as rotisseries, tongs, and cedar planks. It was crucial to integrate these promotions seamlessly, without disrupting primary user actions. Instead, we showcased these products in a way that inspired users and provided opportunities to enhance their BBQ skills and capabilities.

Starbucks Progressive Web App

I had the opportunity to design a comprehensive Progressive Web App (PWA) for Starbucks, bringing the functionality of their native app to the web. Additionally, I led the development of the design system. This project is currently being rolled out to multiple major markets globally.

The challenge

The existing app faced three key challenges: an outdated look and feel that needed a refresh while staying true to Starbucks' branding, a confusing user experience caused by inconsistency and poor hierarchy, and a disorganized, complex design system that required streamlining.

Onboarding

To familiarize users with the app's structure, we integrated the onboarding process into the core functionality; tasks. Instead of traditional onboarding screens, confirming an email address was added directly to the Tasks section. Completing this task populated the Cases section, introducing users to the a second important section of the app. The next task guided users to fill in their personal data, naturally introducing the My Data section. This gradual, task-driven approach allowed users to explore and understand the app's key sections—Cases, Tasks, Providers and My Data through meaningful actions, reinforcing the app's purpose and flow.

Completing tasks

Service providers can request users to complete tasks, with some data automatically retrieved from the app to save time. Other information is designed for quick and intuitive user input. When needed, users have access to help with just a single tap, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience.

Service Providers

The tab exists to let users get in touch with agents if they ever needed too. In addition to this, we made it easy for users to always be able to see who has access to what data, and revoke access if needed.

Data control

A key focus was ensuring users had complete control over their data. At any point, users could easily revoke access from connected service providers, reinforcing transparency and empowering them to decide who could access their information.
